Side Effects of Rogaine in Women
Rogaine has been perhaps the most hyped medication for improving the growth of hair. Chemically, it contains 2 to 5 percent of minoxidil in a solution. Rogaine is available over the counter and because of the promotional tactics; this drug has become one of the most used drugs for hair loss treatment. Some people also go to the lengths of calling it a wonder drug. But is it really a wonder drug? That, now, remains to be seen.
The fact is, there are too many side effects associated with this drug to call it the wonder drug anymore. Within a short while of Rogaine being put on the shelves, the criticisms started. Actually, Rogaine is specifically designed for men. For that reason, women who use Rogaine show many more adverse consequences of the use than men do. The following is a list of side effects of Rogaine that are observed mostly in women:
1. Rogaine is a drug engineered to cure hair loss. Therefore, it is surprising to note that in some people, the use of Rogaine might lead to a temporary hair loss in the starting. This is alarming to say the least, especially for someone who was looking for a hair loss cure!
2. Rogaine is allergic to most women. It can cause an itchy scalp, with varying degrees of itching.
3. In women who have hypotension problems, using Rogaine can cause the blood pressure to drop further. The relation between the two is not established yet, but this can be stated on the basis of observations.
4. It has been observed that Rogaine becomes an addictive habit. If a woman is using Rogaine for a long time for her hair, and then she happens to stop it, then in all possibility, hair loss will occur again. And this time, the hair loss will be more profuse.
5. If Rogaine is used elsewhere on the skin, then acne might occur. Even if there are accidental leaks of the Rogaine onto the forehead while applying on the scalp, pimples might come up there.
6. Some women complain of a temporary condition of a headache or even lightheadedness when Rogaine is applied. In some women, there are complaints of blurred vision also.
7. Rogaine may cause serious complications when used in combination with other substances such as petroleum jelly. When the two are used together (even if used separately, but on a regular basis), then it can increase the absorption of Rogaine into the scalp.
8. In some women, application of Rogaine on a continuous basis can cause problems in the chest, usually chest pains. There might even be an increase in the rate of beating of the heart.
9. However, the most serious problem that Rogaine can cause is in pregnant women. If a pregnant woman uses Rogaine, then there is every possibility that the drug might enter into the fetus through breast milk.
